Wind Canyon Trail is an easy walk with golden, dreamy scenery that’s perfect for grabbing some photos. And if you want something a little more elevated, Buck Hill gives you a stunning panoramic backdrop. You can also head over to Medora for some more beautiful photo opportunities, or just to enjoy the fun small town after your session.
When to Take Senior Photos at Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Each season in Medora has its own vibe, and the best time for senior photos really depends on the look you’re going for. Spring means comfortable temps, wildflowers and everything is nice and green, but there’s always a chance of rain and a bit of mud from snowmelt, so keep this in mind. Summer has long evenings and golden sunsets, though it’s also the busiest time of year. Luckily, the area is huge, so it’s still pretty easy to find quieter spots for photos. Fall is stunning with fewer people, and the landscape is filled with gorgeous colors. Winter is much less ideal with all of the snow, and you can’t enjoy so much of the beauty that you see the rest of the year here.
As far as the time of day, both sunrise and sunset are equally beautiful! You can get something different at both of these times of day, with locations having a different vibe depending on the time and lighting. Golden hour is truly breathtaking, and definitely my favorite time of day for a session here!

When it comes to senior photos here in Medora, the goal is to feel like you, as well as blending well with all of the natural beauty here. Sticking to neutrals is always a good idea, especially with all the wide-open fields, prairie grass, and the golden sunsets. Soft tones like beige, cream, denim, olive, or rust pair beautifully with the scenery without competing with it. Try to avoid distracting patterns, as those can take away the focus from you and clash with the surroundings as well.
It’s also worth choosing something with a little movement.
