Don’t let the absence of sunshine for your engagement session worry you! Check out these Mandan, North Dakota engagement photos to see beauty caught on a cloudy day.
Mandan North Dakota Engagement Photos
There’s nothing more perfect than spring wildflowers for an engagement session! We planned Cody and Breanna’s engagement photos here in Mandan, North Dakota in a field filled with stunning purple flowers. The weather was cloudy, but it ended up being absolutely perfect! I’m always willing to work around some weather, and it can actually make for even better photos than a perfectly sunny day.
Cody and Breanna even brought their daughter along to add into some of their photos and it was the sweetest thing! She loved playing with the flowers and even let me hold her while I took photos of mom and dad. Capturing such special moments between these two, as well as their little family, was such an honor!
Embracing Weather for Your Engagement Photos
As I mentioned above, bad weather doesn’t bother me and I actually think it can really enhance a session! You don’t always want a warm, sunny day for your photos because it can be much harsher lighting. Here’s a few examples of how you can embrace weather for your session!
Clouds: Some people may see a cloudy day and think it could ruin their session, but just like a sunset can enhance your photos, clouds can do the same thing! An overcast day turns out really beautiful in photos, so don’t let a few clouds worry you!
Wind: I am always excited when there is wind for a session, because it can add a lot of movement and emotion to your photos! I have had to reschedule sessions in the past here in North Dakota when the winds are too strong, but otherwise you can just trust the process and your photographer to know how to embrace this weather and create beautiful photos out of it.
Rain: Rain is definitely less ideal, but it can also evoke truly emotional images. When you embrace the rain for your photos, you add such a raw and real feeling to your photos, which is really beautiful! And if it rains, don’t worry, I’ll be carrying umbrellas for you and my camera!
Temperature: Surprisingly, summer isn’t always the perfect time for photos. Sunsets and warm weather are great, but nobody wants to be stressing about sweating for their session. So work around the time of day to have cooler temps, or plan your session in the spring or fall instead!
What to Bring for Your Session
To be prepared in case of bad weather, here are a few things to bring along!
- Change of clothes (or two)
- Layers in case it gets chilly
- Mosquito spray
- Makeup (in case you want to touch it up after rain or warm weather!)
- Hair brush and hairspray
- Umbrella
- Water
- Positive attitude – it will go a long way!
